Alum Creek State Park consists of 4,630 land acres and 3387 water acres. It is a large State Park that can be used for fishing, hunting, hiking, picnicking, swimming, mountain biking, horseback riding, boating, and camping. During the winter months, you can enjoy sledding, cross country skiing, snowboarding, iceboating, ice skating, and ice fishing.

Alum Creek State Park Campground offers both wooded and sunny campsites. There are a few sites that overlook the lake.
The sites are spacious and well kept. The pull-ins are angled for easy parking.
Hiking at Alum Creek State Park Campground
There is one trail at Alum Creek State Park Campground. The South Camp Trail is less than 1 mile long. It is poorly marked. We were never able to find all the trail.
If you are looking for a campground with a lot of hiking trails. This one is not it.
Food at Alum Creek State Park Campground
There were no food options available at Alum Creek State Park Campground.
Beach at Alum Creek State Park Campground
There is a very small beach at Alum Creek State Park Campground. It was very rocky and had a lot of limbs and other debris scattered about.
Other Recreational Activities at Alum Creek State Park Campground
It appears Alum Creek State Park Campground was mostly enjoyed by people fishing and boating. The website state there are basketball courts, volleyball, miniature golf, horseshoe pits, and playgrounds. When we visited the campground, the miniature golf was in complete disrepair. There are a few playgrounds for the children.
If you want something to do while staying at Alum Creek State Park Campground, you will have to get in your vehicle and drive to other locations. There are quite a few trails, parks, marinas, and a large beach.
Birding at Alum Creek State Park Campground
Birding was very sparse in the campground. This was probably due to all the campers. It was a very loud campground. If you are interested in birding while at Alum Creek State Park campground, we would recommend visiting the surrounding trails and beach.
Our Experience at Dillon State Park Campground
We found that Alum Creek State Park is a nice campground for overnight stays, or for anyone interested in boating or fishing. It also seemed to be a favorite park for families. There were a lot of children running around the campground. At night, the campground was very loud and there were a lot of people partying.
We had great cell service (Verizon) and were able to pick up a few TV stations.
Additional Notes:
The trailer pads in the main camping areas are blacktop. Some of the sites were very short.
The sites are fairly level.
The roads in the campground are a decent width. However, there were a lot of vehicles parked on the side of the road because they were not supposed to park in the grass. This made it a little tight.

There were 2 washhouses located in the campground. There is one on each side.
The beach area is located off the South side of the campground. The boat dock is located off the North side of the campground.
Most of the campsites have a decent amount of shade.

What You Can Expect at Alum Creek State Park Campground

Flush toilets.
There are no mountain bike trails at Alum Creek State Park Campground.
We didn't see many birds at the campground. However, there were a lot of birds on the surrounding trails and other recreations spots.
One small footbridge on the path.
Concealed carry is permitted.
Dogs are allowed in campground and on the trails. They are not permitted on the beach.
Trail surfaces are natural. The trails have some slight elevation changes. The trails are easy.
Campground roads and pads are blacktop.
Each lot has a picnic table and fire ring.
There is a playground near the nature center.
There were no benches on the trail.
A lot of shade.
We did not see any shelter houses at the campground.
The natural trails are rough and are not well marked.
There are dumpsters located throughout the campground.

There is a large camper cabin that is ADA compliant.
